Basic Information
Emergency Scientific was founded in 2020 by a team of experienced product developers, investors, and entrepreneurs in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the aim of developing a dedicated catheter for Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) procedures. REBOA is a minimally invasive technology that uses a balloon catheter to temporarily occlude the aorta to support hemorrhage control. In trauma cases, bleeding is a leading cause of potentially survivable deaths. Non-compressible torso hemorrhage (NCTH) is of particular concern due to limited clinical options for temporarily controlling major vessel bleeding during pelvic hemorrhage. REBOA can also be used in other procedures, including postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and potentially cardiac arrest. Emergency Scientific received FDA 510(k) clearance in November 2022 to market the Landmark REBOA Catheter and continues to develop next-generation technologies for the emergency medicine, critical care, and trauma communities.
