UTILITY therapeutics holds the exclusive commercial rights in the United States for two antibiotics approved in Europe, pivmecillinam and mecillinam, which are used to treat urinary tract infections (UTI). Pivmecillinam, an oral prodrug of mecillinam, is currently being developed for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI) and has a unique mechanism of action against infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, including extended-spectrum beta-lactamases. Mecillinam, an intravenous (IV) formulation, is being developed as a first-line therapy for complicated UTIs (cUTI) in hospitals. UTILITY has received the Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of UTI and IV methicillin.
