Aisa Pharma is a private clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. Aisa is developing Provervia® for SSc-RP patients. Provervia® is a novel form of Cilnidipine, a fourth-generation calcium channel blocker (CCB). Cilnidipine is an approved and popular choice for treating hypertension in selected Asian countries. Cilnidipine induces vasodilation and improves the function of the heart, kidneys, and vascular system. Cardiac, renal, and vascular diseases contribute to morbidity and mortality in SSc patients. Therefore, Cilnidipine may improve SSc-RP and potentially the underlying disease. In hypertension studies, Cilnidipine demonstrated better tolerability compared to off-label CCBs approved in the U.S. for Raynaud’s phenomenon, with a wider therapeutic window. Unlike other approved CCBs, Cilnidipine may also have a role in certain pain conditions.
