Envivo Bio, a biotechnology company advancing the fields of gut microbiome and metabolomics, has developed the proprietary CapScan® gut sampling device, which provides spatial and temporal insights into the human metabolome within the upper gastrointestinal tract. CapScan is a non-invasive, ingestible collection device about the size of a standard vitamin pill. Each device features a pH-targeted enteric coating designed to dissolve at a predetermined rate based on the varying pH levels across different regions of the human gut. Once this coating dissolves, the internal bladder of CapScan opens and absorbs luminal contents for subsequent ex vivo analysis. CapScan’s multi-regional sampling capability enables spatiotemporal measurements of pancreatic and hepatic secretions, small intestinal microbiota, secondary metabolites, drug metabolism, inflammatory biomarkers, bile acid transformations, and fiber fermentation.
