Basic Information
EnsiliTech, a UK spin-off from the University of Bath, is developing technology consisting of protective nanoshells located on the surface of vaccines. EnsiliTech has developed a method to stabilize biologics without refrigeration. Vaccines, antibodies, and proteins are prone to degradation at room temperature, thus relying on an extensive network of refrigeration and cold chain transportation. Due to temperature control failures, 50% of vaccines are wasted annually. EnsiliTech's technology encapsulates these biologics in a protective silica matrix to prevent degradation, reduce waste, and improve the accessibility of vaccines and antibodies in low- and middle-income countries that lack sufficient cold chain infrastructure.
