Bamboo Therapeutics

Bamboo Therapeutics was established to advance the work of Dr. Richard Jude Samulski, director of the University of North Carolina (UNC) Gene Therapy Center, from the laboratory to human clinical trials that meet drug approval requirements. Dr. Samulski is a pioneer in the field of gene therapy. Thirty (30) years ago, Dr. Samulski was the first to realize the potential of using adeno-associated virus (AAV) as a vector to replace defective genes with healthy ones. Since then, he has redesigned naturally occurring viruses for targeted delivery to specific tissues, avoiding off-target effects and enhancing their safety. This has led to twenty (20) patents associated with the therapeutic use of AAV. Dr. Samulski continues to lead innovation in the field of vector optimization and AAV reengineering.
