Basic Information

Afrigen is a biotechnology company strategically guided, supported, and capitalized by Avacare Healthcare Group and the South African Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). It was founded in 2014 by Steven G. Reed (Ph.D.) and Erik Iverson (J.D., LL.M.) of the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI). Afrigen advances a business strategy focused on product development, bulk adjuvant manufacturing, and the supply and distribution of critical biologicals to meet unmet healthcare needs. Through international partnerships and local capacity building, Afrigen has established the first adjuvant production and formulation technology center on the African continent. In collaboration with IDRI, a world leader in adjuvant development, the center focuses on next-generation vaccine adjuvants that are not only for disease prevention but also have therapeutic value.
