Lumoptik, Inc. is a medical device company that has developed the BrightPoint™ Needle Guidance System to assist physicians in placing needles during epidural procedures for childbirth, spine/back pain, and surgeries such as knee and hip replacements. In the United States, there are over 11 million epidural procedures performed annually. The vast majority of these procedures are performed manually by physicians without mechanical or electronic needle guidance, and complications are common. The BrightPoint™ Needle Guidance System is designed as a low-cost, easy-to-use device, consisting of a reusable handheld controller and a disposable fiber optic light channel, which is designed to adapt to the lumen of existing epidural needles. This represents a razor (reusable handheld controller) and blade (disposable fiber optic) commercial model.
