Complement Therapeutics Team Builds on Groundbreaking Research by Three Founders from the University of Manchester: Professors Simon J. Clark and Paul Bishop, and Dr. Richard Unwin. The team will focus on addressing unmet needs in complement-mediated diseases, particularly age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss and blindness worldwide. Notably, the founders have conducted highly innovative research into the pathophysiology of complement-driven diseases, recently publishing findings on the role of Factor H-related (FHR) proteins in age-related macular degeneration. In addition to its candidate therapeutic drugs, CTx has developed a precision medicine diagnostic platform, enabling patient stratification based on their complement activation profiles. This advancement holds potential for patient selection in future clinical studies and as an efficacy biomarker.
