Basic Information
QSAM Biosciences, Inc. is developing next-generation radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and related diseases and conditions. QSAM's initial technology is Samarium-153 DOTMP, also known as CycloSam®, a clinical-stage bone-targeted radiopharmaceutical developed by IsoTherapeutics Group LLC, a leader in the field of nuclear medicine that also developed FDA-approved and commercially available Quadramet® (Samarium-153 EDTMP) for pain relief. CycloSam® has been assigned to IGL Pharma, Inc., a subsidiary of IsoTherapeutics Group. CycloSam® has demonstrated preliminary safety and efficacy in animal studies and successfully completed an FDA-approved human trial in 2020. This nuclear technology utilizes low specific activity Samarium-153 (resulting in significantly less europium) and DOTMP, a chelating agent believed to eliminate off-target migration and target high bone turnover sites, making it an ideal candidate for treating osteosarcoma or other bone metastases. Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. Due to its ability to deliver radiation to the skeletal system, it is also considered an effective agent for bone marrow ablation as a preconditioning step for bone marrow transplantation. The drug candidate combines an FDA-approved radioisotope with a novel chelator that has shown increased efficacy and reduced side effects in animal models.
