Basic Information

Abbott Ireland Diagnostics Division Established Our First Irish Diagnostic Manufacturing Facility in 1994 at Finisklin Business Park in Sligo to Produce Blood Screening Products and Reagents.Since its establishment, this impressive manufacturing facility has expanded eightfold and now spans 9 acres with nearly 170,000 square feet of space. The Sligo facility is the second-largest plant globally for producing diagnostic products. Process and product innovation laboratories were established in Sligo to support the development of pioneering new products for Abbott’s diagnostics business.Over the years, the portfolio of Abbott products manufactured in Sligo has continued to evolve. The reagents we produce are used for diagnostic assays and screening for a variety of diseases and conditions, with a focus on infectious diseases and cancer. Our infectious disease tests detect hepatitis B as well as rubella and cytomegalovirus associated with congenital conditions. Our oncology tests measure levels of key blood proteins indicative of prostate cancer, liver cancer, and various other tumors. We also produce instrument accessory reagents, which are materials required for the daily operation of Abbott diagnostic instruments. This includes line diluents and wash buffers used in hospitals and clinical laboratories worldwide.
