Basic Information
Egenesis, Inc. was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Massachusetts. It was co-founded by Harvard geneticist George Church and 30-year-old Chinese postdoctoral researcher Luhan Yang. The company focuses on knocking out genes in pigs that could cause disease in humans or lead to organ rejection. Utilizing the gene-editing tool CRISPR-Cas9 (which modifies the genetic sequence of pig organs to prevent or reduce human reactions to viruses within pig organs), eGenesis aims to transplant pig organs into humans, advancing the clinical application of xenotransplantation.
