Topical Eye Drop Developer

Basic Information

Sydnexis is a privately held clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a proprietary formulation for reducing myopia in children. Sydnexis recently initiated a Phase 3 study to test its patented eye drop formulation, SYD-101. Myopia is the most common ocular condition in children and has seen a dramatic increase in prevalence over the past 30 years. In the United States and the European Union, about 30-40% of children develop myopia, with recent estimates suggesting that this figure may approach 80% in Asia. Once considered a benign refractive condition, myopia—even at low levels—has been associated with numerous severe ocular comorbidities. Such ocular comorbidities include myopic macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization, retinal detachment, glaucoma, and blindness. The higher the degree of myopia, the greater the risk of these ocular comorbidities later in life. Sydnexis aims to develop a proprietary, stable topical eye drop to treat myopia in children.
