AFFiRiS AG is a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to challenging existing treatment options for neurodegenerative diseases in order to preserve patients' quality of life. Since its founding in 2003, the company has pursued its vision of harnessing the immune system to identify and combat proteins critical to the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. AFFiRiS AG has a broad portfolio of immunotherapy candidates currently in clinical trials or preclinical development for various neurodegenerative diseases. Affiris has developed two peptide vaccines (PD01 and PD04) that mimic alpha-synuclein. In mouse models, these vaccines were able to reduce levels of alpha-synuclein oligomers in neuronal axons and synapses, as well as decrease the death of dopamine-producing neurons.
