Basic Information
XsellSmart was founded in 2021 by Dr. Li Xiang, a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the School of Life Sciences at Peking University and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S. The company is dedicated to providing scalable, low-cost stem cell therapy solutions for major diseases like Parkinson's disease, which currently lack substantial clinical solutions. Under the comprehensive leadership of founder Dr. Li Xiang: XsellSmart has built a full-time team of over a hundred members, including 20 Ph.D./postdocs. Core team members come from renowned universities and well-known companies in the cell therapy industry both domestically and internationally, bringing cutting-edge stem cell treatment technologies and translational experience. XsellSmart has completed multiple rounds of financing worth hundreds of millions, led by Frees Fund, Qiming Venture Partners, Lilly Asia Ventures, Sequoia Capital China, Jinyuan Zhanhong, and Zhongxin Capital. XsellSmart has established key technology platforms such as iPS cell line reprogramming, iPSC gene editing, and differentiation of iPSCs into various subtypes of cell types, while also building a global technology patent system. The company has completed GMP-grade iPSC cell lines and developed animal models for evaluating the safety and efficacy of cell therapeutics. XsellSmart’s self-designed and constructed R&D center, GMP pilot production facility, and quality control center span thousands of square meters and can support the scaled production of various clinical-grade iPS-derived cells. XsellSmart's core pipeline, involving the differentiation of iPS into dopamine neuron progenitor cells for treating Parkinson’s disease, is expected to enter clinical trials in 2024.
