Basic Information

Acumen Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a novel disease-modifying approach targeting what we believe to be the key underlying cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder that leads to loss of memory and cognitive function, ultimately resulting in death. Our scientific founders pioneered research on soluble amyloid-beta oligomers, or AßOs, which are globular assemblies of amyloid-beta, or Aß, peptides distinct from Aß monomers and amyloid plaques. Based on decades of research and supportive evidence, AßOs have gained increasing scientific recognition as the primary toxins initiating and propagating AD pathology. Currently, we are focused on developing ACU193, a targeted immunotherapy candidate, and establishing proof of mechanism in early AD patients. ACU193 is a humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively targets AßOs, demonstrating functional and protective effects in vitro, as well as safety and pharmacological activity in vivo across multiple animal species, including AD transgenic models. In the second quarter of 2021, we initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial for ACU193 to evaluate its safety and tolerability, while also exploring its pharmacokinetics and target engagement.
