Novel Microdevices, a woman-owned and woman-led infectious disease diagnostics company, is commercializing Novel Dx, a proprietary, first-in-class point-of-care (POC) rapid molecular diagnostic system that is ultra-portable and suitable for a wide range of high-volume molecular diagnostic testing applications. The company is developing tests for various respiratory and sexually transmitted infections. Novel’s new device will also detect antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea, including strains resistant to ciprofloxacin and third-generation cephalosporins, the only effective antibiotic treatments for gonorrhea. Novel’s device will diagnose infections via vaginal swab or urine sample within 25 minutes.
