Santa Fe Farms currently occupies 29,000 acres of agricultural land, with 8,000 acres prepared for rice cultivation. Other crops under cultivation include cassava, sweet potatoes, rapeseed, solanaceous and leguminous plants. Research is ongoing on other non-traditional crops. Livestock includes cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, and poultry, with a focus on expanding cattle-raising operations. Santa Fe Farms is committed to producing consistently high-quality agricultural and livestock products within the guidelines of Guyana’s "Low Carbon Development Strategy," adopting the best environmentally friendly farming practices, and contributing to Guyana's aspiration to become the "Caribbean food basket." Santa Fe Farms has joined the push for eco-tourism in Guyana by offering first-world accommodations with newly built, spacious, fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottages. Santa Fe Farms operates with optimal management practices and is dedicated to sound environmental ethics, managing around principles that protect wildlife, wetlands, and water resources. The farm employs conservation tillage methods to preserve soil by reducing soil erosion and runoff. Our nutrient and irrigation management programs safeguard water quality and minimize nutrient loss to the environment. Precision agriculture is applied during the planting, spraying, and harvesting of crops, along with an integrated pest management system to protect the environment.
