BWXT Medical Ltd., a subsidiary of BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT), is a global supplier of medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals. BWXT is currently engaged in the irradiation and manufacturing technology for Technetium-99m (Tc-99m) generators in North America. The joint venture intends to replicate these operations in Asia. The joint venture agreement anticipates that any actual operations will be owned by a subsidiary of GMS, with investments expected to begin in 2023 based on certain factors. Tc-99m, the daughter product of Molybdenum-99, is used in over 40 million diagnostic imaging procedures annually worldwide. Currently, hospitals and pharmacies in Asia primarily rely on supplies from Europe or the United States, leading to service reliability issues.
