Bactest

Bactest is a company based in Cambridge, UK, that has developed a technology platform called CYTOMAIA, which is a microbial respirometer used to detect and monitor microbial activity in liquids and softened solids. In October 2012, Bactest announced its first product, Speedy Breedy, a portable microbial respirometer designed for the cultivation and enumeration of bacteria as well as the detection and measurement of biological activity and contamination in applications such as water, beer, food and beverages, paint, oil, and many others. Speedy Breedy is protected by four patents. Bactest's second product, Shepherd, was launched on March 5, 2015. Shepherd is an activated sludge monitoring and management system that provides plant operators, process scientists, and managers with accurate and timely information, enabling them to better manage aeration, reduce energy costs, and lower carbon footprints. Shepherd also utilizes the CYTOMAIA platform and is protected by seven patents. Bactest is a venture capital-backed company, with its cornerstone investor being the Low Carbon Innovation Fund. In 2014, Bactest was named SME of the Year, and in 2015, the company became a finalist and winner of Shell Springboard.
