Basic Information

SoniVie was founded in Israel in 2014 by Accelmed Ventures to develop a novel treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a market currently reliant solely on drug therapies. Accelmed acquired the license for an ultrasound-based therapeutic denervation technology (TIVUS) from Cardiosonic, which was originally developed for renal artery denervation and has early clinical data supporting its use in treating hypertension. The company further advanced the technology for the treatment of PAH, completing a series of preclinical animal studies in Group 1 PH patients (PAH), and initiated an early feasibility study in humans with PAH in 2016. In 2019, the company received Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA for the treatment of PAH.
