Basic Information

AavantiBio, Inc. is dedicated to developing innovative gene therapies to treat rare diseases and improve patients' lives. The gene therapy currently under development by AavantiBio primarily targets Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA), a rare genetic disorder. FA causes degeneration of the spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and cerebellum, leading to impaired muscle coordination (ataxia), resulting in movement problems and neurological damage. Patients may also experience other issues such as heart problems, diabetes, or scoliosis. AavantiBio was co-founded by renowned scholars in the field of gene therapy, Dr. Barry Byrne and Dr. Manuela Corti. The company's lead investigational product is based on their extensive foundational research in the FA disease area, which has been further expanded. AavantiBio has also established strategic partnerships with the Powell Gene Therapy Center at the University of Florida and the MDA Care Center at UF Health, where part of the company's research and clinical trials are conducted.
