Basic Information
TraceTogether is an application released by the Singaporean government that allows for digital contact tracing using the custom BlueTrace protocol. The app was developed by the Government Technology Agency and launched on March 20, 2020.TraceTogether can track individuals who have been in close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients to help curb the spread of the pandemic.TraceTogether works by exchanging short-range Bluetooth signals between phones (so Bluetooth must remain enabled), detecting other nearby TraceTogether users. These close contact records are stored on each user’s phone, encrypted, and not uploaded via the internet. If a user tests positive, the government will request their data to trace others who have been in close contact with them. Additionally, the Ministry of Health will promptly notify those who have been in close contact with confirmed cases through TraceTogether so they can monitor their health for symptoms and receive guidance and care.
