Qualcomm (English: Qualcomm) is a radio communications technology research and development company based in San Diego, California, USA. It was founded in 1985 by Irwin Mark Jacobs and Andrew Viterbi, professors at the University of California, San Diego. The two had previously co-founded Linkabit. Qualcomm's initial products and services included the OmniTRACS satellite positioning and messaging service, widely used by long-haul trucking companies, as well as specialized integrated circuit technologies for digital radio communications, such as the Viterbi decoder.
