OrcaBio is a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to developing a range of high-precision allogeneic cell therapy products, which aim to safely replace a patient's diseased blood and immune system with a healthy one. OrcaBio’s manufacturing platform sorts donor blood with single-cell accuracy, high purity, and high speed, enabling it to create proprietary, optimized mixtures of immune cells and stem cells that could potentially transform allogeneic cell therapy.Currently available cancer cell therapies work by modifying a patient’s own immune cells to better recognize and fight disease. The immune system consists of many cells working together; some stimulate immune activity while others can inhibit it. In other words, the function of immune cells can be suppressed by surrounding cells.Orca is developing what it calls the next generation of cell therapies: a customized formulation that does not alter cells or genes. This allogeneic therapy harvests stem cells and immune cells from healthy donors rather than from the patients themselves. However, instead of simply infusing these healthy cells into the patient, Orca selects certain cells from donor samples and combines them in specific ways.
