OVR Technology is a startup that has developed a VR scent simulation kit: Architecture of Scent (AOS). It includes hardware and software solutions and more than 250 scent modules, which can be used in medical, training and education, retail, gaming, and other scenarios to enhance the immersion of VR through realistic scents.The AOS system was developed over two and a half years and consists of three parts: the scent simulator (ION), scent modules (Scentware), and scent simulation software (Unity SDK).Among these, ION is a plug-in installed below the VR headset (compatible with HTC Vive, WMR, Oculus). It weighs only 130g, making it much smaller than another scent simulation plug-in on the market, FealReal. ION contains nine scent drivers, replaceable scent modules (Scentware), and a lithium battery. It simulates the smell of virtual environments by releasing scent molecules, capable of rapid release in as fast as 0.1 milliseconds, and switching scents within 20 milliseconds. Users can control ION via WiFi or USB.
