Basic Information

Vitaeris is a privately held biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Established in early 2016, the company focuses on developing clazakizumab, a humanized anti-interleukin-6 (IL-6) monoclonal antibody. Clazakizumab was initially discovered and developed by Alder Biopharmaceuticals (Bothell, Washington) for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. In May 2016, Vitaeris exclusively licensed the global rights to clazakizumab from Alder. Since then, given the high unmet medical need and significant interest from the transplant community, the development of this antibody has shifted entirely toward addressing chronic active antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) in kidney transplantation, which represents the leading cause of long-term rejection in kidney transplant patients. Currently, there are no approved treatments for transplant recipients experiencing antibody-mediated rejection.
