Basic Information
New York Life Insurance Company (NYLIC) is the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States and one of the largest life insurance companies in the world. It ranked 88th on the Fortune 500 list in 2014, managing total assets of over $540 billion and surplus and AVR exceeding $19 billion. In 2007, NYLIC received the highest ratings from four independent rating agencies (Standard & Poor's, AM Best, Moody's, and Fitch). In June 2009, these four rating agencies reaffirmed New York Life’s "superior" financial strength, which became a key selling point for that year’s national TV advertising campaign. The company is now one of only three life insurers to hold the highest current ratings from all four rating agencies (Moody's: Aaa, AM Best: A++, Standard & Poor's: AA+, Fitch: AAA). Other branches of New York Life offer a range of securities products and services, as well as institutional and retail mutual funds.
