IntraPace, Inc. was founded by Mir Imran in 2001 in Mountain View, California, with the aim of developing an implantable system for treating obesity called "Abiliti." Once the Abiliti system is implanted and activated, it can detect when a person consumes food or drink. Upon detecting food or drink, the system delivers a series of low-energy electrical pulses to the stomach to create a feeling of fullness.The Abiliti system received CE certification from the European Union in January 2011. It is built on reliable technology used annually in millions of pacemakers and defibrillators. The Abiliti® system is designed to be implanted using standard laparoscopic instruments without altering the anatomy of the digestive system or imposing any restrictions on a person’s diet.
