Basic Information

Vaxxel is a startup company of Virpath, specializing in virology and human pathology at Claude Bernard University Lyon (UCBL) in France. It was founded by Dr. Manir Rosa Rosa-Calatrava, co-director of Virpath (Lyon). Guy Boivin from Laval University (Quebec) and Denis Levert, president of Vaxxel, delivered speeches. Vaxxel develops attenuated live vaccines targeting metapneumovirus and respiratory syncytial virus based on the Metavac® vaccine platform. The platform is funded and licensed by Pulsalys and supported by LyonIngénierieProjets (LIP), a subsidiary of UCBL. Proof-of-concept for the first monovalent candidate vaccine against metapneumovirus has been demonstrated in both animals and humans. The company was a winner of the 2019 i-Lab Award, organized by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in collaboration with Bpifrance, and also received the "FrenchTech Seed" label.
