Synapse Biomedical Inc. (SBI) was founded in September 2002 with the aim of commercializing the NeuRx Diaphragm Pacing System (DPS), which was developed over 20 years by Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland. The innovative research conducted at these institutions has led to significant advancements in state-of-the-art electrical stimulation therapy for chronic respiratory insufficiency.This innovation enables the technology to meet clinical needs and go beyond the capabilities of existing systems, for diaphragm conditioning in spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy (such as ALS), and short-term respiratory critical care environments.
