Spectral Medical Adopts Unique Innovative Treatment Methods to Reduce High Mortality Caused by Sepsis. By combining auxiliary diagnostics, treatment methods, and theories, Spectral's vision is to provide products that can significantly improve the prognosis of patients with severe sepsis.It is well known that endotoxins are a trigger for sepsis. Spectral has conducted Phase III clinical trials on its leading product PMX (Toraymyxin™ PMX-20R) for the treatment of patients with septic shock and endotoxemia (measured using the company’s Endotoxin Activity Assay (EAA™)).PMX is a therapeutic hemoperfusion device that removes circulating endotoxins from the blood. A pivotal trial, EUPHRATES (which evaluates the use of Polymyxin B hemoperfusion in a randomized controlled trial targeting adults receiving treatment for endotoxemia and septic shock), showed that when PMX was applied to patients with septic shock who had baseline endotoxin levels (EA) between 0.6 and 0.9, it reduced mortality and improved organ dysfunction.Both EAA™ and PMX have received authorization from Health Canada and are available for sale in Canada.
