Basic Information
HepaRegeniX is developing drugs for the treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases that can effectively restore the regenerative capacity of liver cells. This therapeutic concept is based on research from Professor Lars Zender's group at Tübingen University Hospital, which identified mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase 4 (MKK4) as a key regulator of liver regeneration. The work by Professor Zender’s team has shown that inhibiting MKK4 gene expression using small RNA molecules can restore the regenerative capacity of liver cells, even in severely diseased livers. Founded in 2015, HepaRegeniX is developing small molecule MKK4 inhibitors for the treatment of liver diseases, potentially including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
