Volastra Therapeutics is pioneering a novel approach to halt or prevent cancer metastasis, one of the major unresolved challenges in cancer treatment. Co-founders Dr. Lewis Cantley, Dr. Olivier Elemento, MD, PhD, and Dr. Samuel Bakhoum have made groundbreaking discoveries regarding the role of chromosomal instability in driving cancer spread. Mechanisms by which CIN drives the formation and proliferation of metastatic tumors have been identified. Preliminary evidence suggests that a patient’s CIN status has predictive value for metastasis, as CIN alters metastasis and overall survival in mouse models. The company is exploring the mechanisms and pathways through which CIN regulates metastatic disease to develop new therapeutic approaches.
