Basic Information

The story of Tristel began in 1993 when the founding shareholders developed a proprietary chlorine dioxide formulation for the disinfection of flexible endoscopes as an alternative to glutaraldehyde. At that time, glutaraldehyde was widely used in all hospitals across the UK and worldwide for the disinfection of heat-sensitive medical instruments. However, it was known to be toxic.Over the next decade, Tristel gradually captured a significant market share in the UK hospital market. In June 2005, Tristel plc was listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.By this time, the company had a broader vision for the use of chlorine dioxide chemistry and formulated a strategy to apply its chemical reaction to the four transmission vectors of infection in hospitals: instruments, surfaces, water, and skin.
