On December 19, 2024, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, accompanied by Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, visited the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone. At the Tianmu Qintai Exhibition Hall in Hengqin, President Xi listened to a presentation by Liu Liang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, lifetime professor at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, chief scientist at the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine), and director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory (referred to as "Hengqin Laboratory"), on the establishment of a high-end technological platform for traditional Chinese medicine jointly developed by Guangdong and Macao. President Xi expressed approval of the Hengqin Laboratory’s integration of advanced multi-disciplinary technologies to help promote traditional Chinese medicine globally.


Hengqin Laboratory is a high-end technology platform for traditional Chinese medicine established under the planning and promotion of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, as well as the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It leverages the unique geographical advantages of the "Hengqin-Macao integration" to integrate advanced multi-disciplinary technologies for fostering new productive forces in traditional Chinese medicine, advancing its modernization and industrialization, and achieving the integration of industry, academia, and research. Hengqin Laboratory was officially inaugurated in December 2023 and, within a year, has brought together top research institutions, experts, and enterprises to jointly create several leading innovative platforms. XtalPi, with its solid expertise in AI large models and robotics technology, stood out in a competitive bidding process and earned the qualification to participate in the construction of Hengqin Laboratory’s "Four Modernizations Platform" for the creation of new traditional Chinese medicine drugs.
Hengqin Laboratory's "Four Modernizations Platform" for the creation of new traditional Chinese medicine drugs is the world's first fully automated platform for the separation and analysis of active components in traditional Chinese medicine, achieving full-process intelligence, digitalization, engineering, and automation from component separation and extraction to drug activity testing.
Under the guidance of Academician Liu Liang and his team, XtalPi has deeply integrated next-generation artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics with scenarios such as extraction and concentration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), separation and purification of TCM, structural characterization and identification of TCM components, and bioactivity measurement. Through digital management and AI algorithms, XtalPi has constructed a panoramic dataset of active TCM components, significantly improving R&D efficiency and reducing costs for the creation of compound TCM and the discovery of new monomer drugs.
