On January 13, 2025, Fosun Pharmaceutical's subsidiary Shanghai Henlius Biotech, Inc. (2696.HK) announced that it had signed a licensing agreement with Abbott. The agreement grants Abbott exclusive or semi-exclusive rights to develop and commercialize four biosimilars and one innovative biologic independently developed by the company in 69 emerging market countries and regions. The agreement covers Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the Middle East and North Africa. This licensing agreement further deepens the existing collaboration between the two parties in the field of oncology biosimilars.
Under the new agreement, the first batch of molecular candidates is expected to be launched by 2027, with the remaining products pending completion of clinical development and registration. Abbott will be responsible for the marketing authorization of the collaborative products within the collaboration region and leverage the extensive influence and industry leadership of its existing business to promote the market adoption of the collaborative products. As an international biopharmaceutical company focusing on oncology, autoimmune diseases, and ophthalmic diseases, Shanghai Henlius Biotech, Inc. will manufacture these drugs at its GMP-certified production base located in Shanghai.

This agreement builds on an existing collaboration between the two companies for the commercialization of oncology biosimilars.
Under this new agreement, the first molecules are anticipated to be launched in 2027, with some still subject to the completion of clinical development and registration. Abbott will secure the molecule registration in these regions and will launch the products by leveraging its broad presence and leadership position through its existing business. Henlius, a global biologics company focusing on oncology, autoimmune and ophthalmic diseases, will manufacture the medicines in its GMP-approved facility in Shanghai.
