Medical Device R&D and Manufacturer

Since February, the 2024 "report cards" of multinational pharmaceutical companies have been released one after another. Overall, leading multinational pharmaceutical companies have shown major development trends such as revenue growth, significant scaling up of innovative products, and accelerated mergers and acquisitions. Notably, while rapidly developing, many companies have achieved new breakthroughs in performance; there are quite a few companies with revenues exceeding 10 billion US dollars in 2024, including four pharmaceutical enterprises with revenues surpassing 60 billion US dollars.

  Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson Releases Full-Year 2024 Performance, Achieving Revenue of $88.821 Billion for 2024, a Year-on-Year Increase of 4.3%, or 7% Year-on-Year Growth Excluding Currency Impact. Full-Year Net Profit Attributable to Common Shareholders was $14.066 Billion, a Decrease of 59.99% Compared to $35.153 Billion in the Same Period Last Year.

Among them, the global sales of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Pharmaceuticals reached 57 billion USD, increasing by 5.8% year-on-year. The global sales of Johnson & Johnson Medical Technology amounted to 31.9 billion USD, growing by 4.8% year-on-year.

  Roche

Roche's financial report shows that the company achieved revenue of 60.5 billion Swiss francs in 2024. Roche achieved a 7% sales growth (3% growth at constant exchange rates), with a net profit attributable to shareholders of 8.277 billion Swiss francs in 2024, and a net profit margin of 13.7%. Core operating profit increased by 14% (8% growth in Swiss francs), reaching 20.8 billion Swiss francs, benefiting from sales growth, improved gross margin, and effective cost management.

In 2024, the company's overall operating profit was 13.417 billion, with an operating profit margin of 22.2%. R&D expenses were 15.3 billion, accounting for 25.3% of revenue; sales and management expenses were 14.896 billion, representing 24.6%.

  Merck & Co.

Merck announced its financial results for 2024 on February 4, with total revenue reaching $64.168 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7%; pharmaceutical business revenue was $57.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7%; R&D investment decreased by 41% year-on-year to $17.938 billion.

According to reports, Merck's Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) set a new sales record in 2024, generating $29.482 billion in revenue with an 18% growth rate, accounting for approximately 46% of Merck's total annual revenue. Notably, Keytruda will face the risk of patent expiration in 2028. Therefore, Merck is currently striving to maximize the clinical and commercial value of Keytruda, including expanding early-stage indications, pursuing combination strategies, and developing subcutaneous formulations.

  Pfizer

Pfizer announced its financial results for 2024, achieving a total revenue of $63.627 billion for the year, representing a 7% increase year-over-year. Excluding the impacts of the COVID-19 oral drug Paxlovid and the COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty, revenue grew by 12%. In particular, revenue for the fourth quarter reached $17.763 billion, marking a 21% year-over-year increase.

When releasing its earnings this time, Pfizer also reaffirmed the company's full-year outlook for 2025 announced in December last year, with expected sales between $61 billion and $64 billion.

From the performance announcements, each company's "flagship product" has made a significant contribution to last year's revenue results. It seems that "those who have good products rule the world" remains the golden rule in the pharmaceutical industry.
