On March 3 local time, KYORIN Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced today that it has reached a global licensing agreement with Novartis for KRP-M223 discovered by KYORIN and its backup compounds.

Under the agreement, KYORIN grants Novartis an exclusive global license to develop, manufacture, and commercialize KRP-M223. KYORIN retains the option to commercialize and produce the product for the Japanese market in Japan, while Novartis retains the option to co-promote with KYORIN in Japan.
In return, KYORIN will receive$55 millionThe upfront payment, and is eligible to receive up to$777.5 millionMilestone payments, as well as tiered royalties on net sales.
KRP-M223 is an MRGPRX2 antagonist used in allergic and inflammatory diseases involving mast cells, such asChronic Spontaneous Urticaria。MRGPRX2 is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in mast cells.In response to MRGPRX2 activation, mast cells degranulate and release histamine,The release of mediators such as trypsin causes urticaria accompanied by angioedema and intense itching.
