1. "One Drug, Three Effects": Lowering Blood Sugar, Reducing Lipids, and Protecting the Liver – JAMA Sub-Journal: New Drug Offers Potential Option for Diabetes Patients

Recently, published in《JAMA Network Open》A study showed that Ursodeoxycholic Berberine (HTD1801), as a novel oral anti-inflammatory and metabolic modulator, demonstrated significant glucose-lowering, lipid-lowering, and liver-protective effects in patients with type 2 diabetes. The drug exerts its biological activity by activating AMPK and inhibiting NLRP3, thereby improving glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, and hepatic inflammation. In this double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial, 129 patients with type 2 diabetes from 14 medical centers in China were enrolled. Results showed that after 12 weeks of treatment, HbA1C levels decreased by 0.7% and 1.0% from baseline in the 500 mg and 1000 mg dose groups, respectively, compared to only a 0.3% reduction in the placebo group. Additionally, Ursodeoxycholic Berberine effectively reduced fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose and exhibited potential liver-protective effects. This study, led by Professor Lining Ji from Peking University People's Hospital, offers a new potential option for the comprehensive management of patients with type 2 diabetes.
