Recently, Medtronic announced the launch of a "bold" ten-year global initiative — Medtronic Spark.
Amid the global healthcare talent shortage, an ambitious plan to cultivate future health technology leaders has quietly launched in Galway, Ireland. Global medical technology giant Medtronic announced,Launch the "Medtronic Spark" initiative, a ten-year plan aimed at paving the way for 1 million young people from low-income families to access high-paying careers in health technology.

5,000 Healthcare Workers Strike in Oregon, USA
As 2030 approaches, the healthcare and technology industries are facing an unprecedented talent crisis. It is predicted that these two sectors will face a total shortage of 15 million professionals, with the health technology field alone lacking 4.3 million, and the healthcare workforce expected to be short by a staggering 11 million. This severe situation poses significant challenges to low-income countries and students.
Medtronic's Spark Program has emerged, which is not just a program but a revolution. Through three core projects – Spark Certification, Spark Innovation Lab, and Spark Scholarship – Medtronic is addressing the pain point of talent shortage with unprecedented effort.
Torod Neptune, Chairman of the Medtronic Foundation, expressed strong confidence in this initiative: "The Medtronic Spark Program is a multi-dimensional and comprehensive solution that embodies Medtronic's 75-year historical mission and steadfast commitment. By investing in future talent, we are cultivating an elite team capable of addressing the healthcare challenges of tomorrow."
A survey jointly conducted by Medtronic and Morning Consult revealed that 72% of Americans are concerned about the talent shortage in the healthcare industry, a proportion significantly higher than in other industries. Only 35% of respondents believe society is well-prepared.
However, opportunities and challenges coexist. As the global health technology industry is projected to surpass the US$775 billion market value threshold by 2029, countless young people are gearing up, eager to seize this historic opportunity. Medtronic understands that education, skills, and competitiveness are the stepping stones for young people to embark on successful careers.

Sally Saba, another chairperson of the Medtronic Foundation, emphasized: "The goal of the Medtronic Spark initiative is not only to touch the lives of young people but to completely transform their life trajectories. The opportunities we provide in the field of health technology will open a door to future success for them, an impact that will span generations and be enduring and profound."
Medtronic Spark Program to Launch Worldwide, Covering Every Corner of Medtronic’s Established Operations. The Program Focuses on the Next-Generation Workforce, Providing Three Key Supports:
Certification
The first-of-its-kind industry-recognized certification, tailored for non-degree young people, equips them with the skills needed to adapt to an ever-changing job market. This innovative pathway not only benefits businesses but also opens the door to tech careers for workers.
Innovation Lab
Providing hands-on innovative opportunities and professional guidance in low-income communities to inspire young people's interest and preparation for careers in health technology. We deeply understand that practice is the sole criterion for testing truth and also the key to nurturing future leaders.
Scholarship
Beyond traditional tuition-supported scholarship programs, removing obstacles from the path of low-income students pursuing education. Medtronic understands that only by comprehensively addressing students' financial, psychological, and social barriers can they truly help them successfully complete their studies.

Recently, Medtronic's Q3 financial report for the fiscal year 2025 showed that the company's revenue reached approximately 8.3 billion U.S. dollars, increasing by 2.5% on a reported basis and 4.1% on an organic basis.
Among these, the revenue from the cardiac ablation solutions business increased by more than 20%, mainly driven by the strong performance of pulsed field ablation (PFA) products. The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it would cover renal denervation for the treatment of hypertension, with the final decision expected to take effect on or before October 11, 2025.
Medtronic Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Martha said, "This quarter we delivered strong profitability, with both gross margin and operating margin significantly improving, driven by mid-single-digit organic revenue growth for the ninth consecutive quarter. We are beginning to see the fruits of our long-term investments in breakthrough innovations, such as pulsed field ablation technology, which are driving growth."
The company continues to expect organic revenue growth for the fiscal year 2025 to be in the range of 4.75% to 5%.

In the second quarter of 2025, when the Trump administration's decision targeted the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other key health departments in an attempt to cut their budgets, this move not only caused a stir within the United States but also sparked deep global concern about the future direction of the healthcare sector.

Today, Rao Yi, the former dean of Peking University's School of Life Sciences, wrote about this matter, in which he stated"The achievements of biomedical research are shared by all humanity; science is one of the main bridges that promote mutual understanding among people of different nations."
Professor Rao Yi's remarks are particularly valuable at a time when the trend of "de-globalization" is quietly on the rise.
As a leading enterprise in the global medical and healthcare industry, Medtronic's investment in future global medical technology talent vividly practices Professor Rao Yi's concept of a "scientific bridge." It demonstrates that, even as globalization faces headwinds, the medical and healthcare industry can still serve as a bond connecting different countries and cultures, promoting global harmony and progress through the shared goal of improving human health. Going forward, Device之家 will continue to monitor the latest strategies of global medical giants, contributing to the dissemination of cutting-edge medical technology information.
