On March 19, 2025, Illumina made a big announcement.
Illumina, Inc. and NashBio Announce Completion of 250,000 Whole Genome Sequences by the Alliance for Genomics Discovery (AGD), creating one of the largest and most comprehensive clinical genomic datasets of its kind, helping to accelerate drug target discovery, treatment research, and clinical development.
The program was completed ahead of schedule, becoming one of the fastest large-scale genomics projects to date.

How fast is it?
In 2022, Illumina, in collaboration with NashBio, AbbVie, Amgen, AstraZeneca, and Merck, launched the AGD project to help these member companies discover and validate new drug targets.
These studies cover fields such as autoimmune diseases, liver fibrosis, and metabolic disorders.
In the announcement on January 4, 2024, we found that AGD completed 86,000 WGS (Whole Genome Sequencing) in 2023.
In other words,In nearly a year, AGD completed 164,000 WGS with the support of Illumina sequencers.
Just ask you if it's fast or not.

So, is the AGD 250,000 WGS project over once it's completed?
Impossible.

Would Illumina let go of this golden goose that has placed an order so easily?
It feels great to take advantage of benefits, and it keeps feeling great as long as you keep doing it.

The announcement mentioned that the WGS data is only AGD 1.0.
Illumina also has multi-omics tools, newly acquired single-cell sequencing technology, proteomics technology, and even the spatial biology technology that is still partially under wraps, all of which need to be brought into play.
More is better, more is stronger.
As the NIH reels under Trump's "torment," securing funding has become the biggest challenge for life science research tool companies.
The government is short of money, but the private sector has money.
Learn from Illumina. This is the real master.
Ps: When I saw this big news from Illumina, I thought Ultima and Element had stolen the show again... Fortunately, I haven't seen it for now.
