【Pharmaceutical Network Enterprise NewsIn recent years, the AI wave has been sweeping across the world. Against this backdrop, large pharmaceutical enterprises are also actively embracing AI. Some companies have established relevant AI teams, while others are actively seeking partners to build close cooperative relationships. For instance, Medtronic, a global professional medical device supplier, is accelerating artificial intelligence research and development or improving medical devices through collaboration.

Recently, Medtronic has entered into a deep collaboration with Methinks AI, which focuses on artificial intelligence medical applications. The aim is to bring higher quality treatment services to stroke patients in multiple regions including Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, Turkey, and the Middle East, helping to significantly improve local stroke treatment standards.

It is reported that Methinks AI, a company that has already made a name for itself in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) healthcare, owns a professional AI-driven radiology triage and notification system. This system can quickly and accurately analyze and evaluate patients' imaging data using AI algorithms, providing doctors with timely and effective diagnostic support, thereby enhancing the precision and timeliness of stroke treatment. The in-depth collaboration between Medtronic and Methinks AI focuses on the former’s influential neurovascular business segment, which will optimize the stroke care process and improve patient treatment pathways.

On March 24, the signing and unveiling ceremony of Medtronic's Digital Healthcare Innovation Hub was held at the Beijing Yizhuang International Medical Innovation Park (BioPark). This is the first digital healthcare innovation hub established by Medtronic in China, and it is expected to officially begin operations by the end of this year.

According to reports, this innovation base is dedicated to developing disease management solutions based on artificial intelligence and big data. It will focus on building medical training centers in the fields of cardiovascular, minimally invasive surgery, and neuroscience; establish a patient care center to introduce digital technology and enhance the service level of patient prevention and management; and simultaneously construct the Medtronic Museum.

In 2023, Medtronic collaborated with computer chip manufacturer NVIDIA to develop an artificial intelligence application platform for running on its medical devices.

It is reported that Medtronic has integrated NVIDIA's real-time AI computing software platform for medical devices, Holoscan, and the industrial-grade edge AI hardware platform IGX into its GI Genius AI intelligent endoscopy module. This module, developed and manufactured by Cosmo Pharmaceuticals, the developer and producer of GI Genius, provides doctors with AI-enhanced diagnostic images. GI Genius is the first AI-assisted colonoscopy tool to receive FDA approval, helping physicians detect polyps that could potentially develop into colorectal cancer.

In 2020, Medtronic announced the acquisition of two AI companies, Digital Surgery and Medicrea. The artificial intelligence technology of Digital Surgery will be integrated into Medtronic's soft tissue surgery.RobotSystem, while Medicrea is committed to further optimizing Medtronic's spinal surgery solutions, including those driven by AI.Surgical OperationPlan and utilize AI to create personalized spinal implants, etc.

Moreover, as early as 2018, Medtronic acquired Mazor Robotics, an Israeli surgical robotics company, gaining the Mazor X surgical platform. This system integrates Medtronic's advanced algorithms, software, robotic arms, navigation technology, and surgical tools, providing spinal surgeons with comprehensive support throughout the entire process from preoperative planning to intraoperative navigation and postoperative evaluation.

Overall, Medtronic is continuously increasing its investment in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). In the future, with the assistance of AI, its medical technology will achieve better clinical outcomes, and intelligent medical devices will benefit more patients.
