The matter is not significant. Let’s cut through the mutual flattery and get to the main point.

On April 15, 2025, sequencing leader Illumina and artificial intelligence precision medicine company Tempus announced a new collaboration.

In fact, Tempus has been using Illumina's sequencers,The uniqueness of this collaboration lies in combining Illumina's AI technology with Tempus's multimodal data platform to train new genomic algorithms, ultimately accelerating the application of clinical molecular diagnostics.

It seems a bit counterintuitive. The full name of Tempus is Tempus.AI, so how did it become like a provider of training materials?

Is it possible that Illumina has been collaborating with Nvidia to obtain GPUs at a lower price?

In fact, Illumina has invested significantly in AI, such as the well-known PrimateAI-3D, an AI tool based on a deep neural network architecture that can predict pathogenic gene mutations in patients with high accuracy.

SpliceAI is widely used in genetic disease research and clinical diagnosis, helping biologists and geneticists better understand the impact of gene splicing variants on diseases.

Illumina Strikes Back Rapidly

We've talked about this before, and if you're interested, you can go check it out.

Therefore, it is reasonable for Illumina to develop new AI algorithms and Tempus to provide training materials.

However, the two sides in the announcement seem to be on different wavelengths.

From Illumina's statement, "This collaboration willLeveraging Tempus's multimodal data to further enhance Illumina's AI-driven molecular analysis technology"And generate new insights to support the clinical value of sequencing."

We understand correctly.

But.

Tempus stated: "By expanding our partnership with Illumina, we areOur Advantages in Technology and Data AnalysisAndTheir advantages in developing new sequencing technologies"Combined to drive innovation and advance the development of precision medicine,"

Alright,Belongs to a collaboration, each party stated...

Fortunately, there is consensus.

"The program is launched on the basis of long-term cooperation between the two companies, with a focus onDevelopment Tools and Detection Methods”。

The detection method Illumina is definitely no problem, as for the new AI tool, who developed it, that depends on fate...

A more interesting thing is that, as of the time of writing, this announcement was still only posted by Illumina.

Tempus showed no activity...

Update: I got up early this year to check, and Tempus still hasn't made any moves.
