East China Medicine and SynerK's siRNA Hypertension Drug SNK-2726 Granted IND Approval in China

The official website of the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the China National Medical Products Administration recently announced,Synerk's申报的1类新药SNK-2726注射液获批临床，拟开发治疗高血压。公开资料显示，这是Huadong Medicine和Synerk正在共同开发的一款Small nucleic acid (siRNA) candidate drug targeting angiotensinogen (AGT). The product has been approved for IND in the United States this February, and this is the first time that the product has been approved for IND in China.

AGT is the most upstream precursor in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). AGT in the blood circulation mainly originates from the liver, and inhibiting the production of AGT can effectively block the RAAS system and regulate blood pressure.

SNK-2726 Injection isSynerk Pharmaceutical Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. has developed an siRNA drug targeting AGT,By subcutaneous injection, it can inhibit the production of AGT from the source, block the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), and achieve the effect of lowering systemic blood pressure.Preclinical study results show that SNK-2726 can deeply inhibit the synthesis of AGT in the liver, leading to a sustained reduction in AGT protein levels, thereby exerting a long-acting blood pressure lowering effect.

In December 2024, Huadong Medicine announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Huadong Medicine Co., Ltd., had reached a strategic agreement with Synerk Pharmaceutical Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.CooperationThe two parties will jointly develop the candidate drug SNK-2726 for the treatment of hypertension. According to the cooperation agreement, the two parties will jointly advance the development of SNK-2726 to a certain stage, while Huadong Medicine will obtain an exclusive option and can pay an exercise fee in the future to acquire the exclusive rights to develop, register, manufacture, and commercialize SNK-2726 in Greater China.
