On April 25, 2025, Olympus, a medical technology giant, announced the appointment of Bob White, former Executive Vice President of Medtronic and President of its Medical Surgical Portfolio, as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to accelerate its ongoing transformation efforts in the medical technology field.
Olympus Corporation's Board of Directors has unanimously decided to appoint Bob White, former Executive Vice President and President of the Medical Surgical Portfolio at Medtronic, to succeed Yasuo Takeuchi as Director, Representative Executive Officer, President, and CEO of Olympus, effective June 1, 2025. Bob will also be nominated as a candidate for the Board of Directors at Olympus' Annual Shareholders' Meeting scheduled for June 2025.
Yasuo Takeuchi said, "We are delighted to appoint Bob to this key leadership position. He brings extensive experience accumulated from working with a variety of respected organizations in the medical technology field. Bob served as Executive Vice President of Medtronic and President of the Medical Surgical Portfolio until April 2024. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and President of Medtronic Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore, overseeing affairs in the Asia-Pacific region and Japan.
During his tenure at Covidien, he served as President of Emerging Markets and President of Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions. He has witnessed numerous innovative projects and led multiple R&D initiatives and M&A transactions within complex business portfolios. His close engagement with markets and customers has enabled him to maintain a deep understanding of doctors' needs.
Before joining Medtronic, Bob held leadership positions at GE Healthcare, Merge Healthcare, and IBM's healthcare division. Throughout his career in the medical technology industry, he has played a crucial role in improving the lives of patients around the world through the transformation of healthcare services.
To select and recommend the best candidate for the next Chief Executive Officer, the Nomination Committee engaged a leading executive search firm and established the Advisory Selection Committee in November 2024. After a comprehensive and rigorous search process, Olympus identified Bob as the ideal leader from a strong pool of internal and external candidates. Bob possesses the skills necessary to guide Olympus through its next phase of transformation, including quality and regulatory initiatives.
Bob holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Cleveland State University and an MBA in finance from Case Western Reserve University in the United States. He currently resides in Colorado and will work with his wife at Olympus' global headquarters in Tokyo.
