Novo Nordisk Discontinues Once-Weekly Oral Semaglutide Development

On May 7, Novo Nordisk disclosed in its Q1 financial report that it has terminated the development of once-weekly oral semaglutide based on portfolio considerations.

Semaglutide, developed by Novo Nordisk, is a GLP-1R agonist. Its injectable form has been approved for the indications of type 2 diabetes, obesity, secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, and diabetic nephropathy. The once-daily oral formulation has been approved for type 2 diabetes, and the indications for obesity and MASH have already been submitted for marketing approval. (See:Heavyweight!
