Recently, with the acquisition of a medical device registration certificate in China,The localization production project of BD FACSLyric, a flow cytometer under BD (Becton Dickinson) Medical, has entered the final sprint stage and will be launched this summer.This will be BD's first introduction of the production of high-end flow cytometers into China, marking not only a further expansion of the company’s localized production layout in the country but also indicating that the supply and use of high-end flow cytometers in China will become more widespread, thereby driving China’s flow cytometry capabilities into a new era of high standards.

In terms of technology accessibility, localized production will provide stable and efficient supply for customers in China while significantly reducing waiting times. Additionally, it can offer various configurations tailored to clients across different regions, with varying levels of experience in flow cytometry, meeting diverse needs from basic research to complex clinical testing. Regarding local innovation, localized production will deeply stimulate and empower "Chinese-style innovation" in advanced flow cytometry, including clinical innovation scenarios and diversified cross-disciplinary applications, forming a positive and rapid cycle of "demand-research-application," accelerating the dual achievement of making technology accessible to the public and promoting industrial growth. In terms of ecosystem co-construction, localized production will further enhance the synergistic development advantages of China’s flow cytometry ecosystem. Currently, there are three major drivers behind the global development of flow cytometry technology: flow standardization, automated gating, and efficient quality control. The BD FACSLyric flow cytometer is a highly representative high-end flow cytometer under these trends.
In terms of flow standardization, the BD FACSLyric flow cytometer can achieve full-process standardization from sample preparation to data analysis. Even when running the same experiment across different sites, operators, or instruments, highly reproducible results can still be obtained. For automatic gating, the visual pattern recognition-based automatic gating tool, BD ElastiGate™, is utilized.1,2, with elastic image registration, has achieved breakthroughs in gating speed, accuracy, and repeatability. The automated gating results are highly similar to manual gating results, making it a key tool for improving laboratory efficiency; furthermore, it achieves automatic gating with minimal training samples, significantly reducing gating time. In terms of efficient quality control, the BD FACSLyric flow cytometer uses a single CS&T bead tube to automatically adjust over 70 parameters, freeing laboratories from cumbersome QC processes while ensuring reliable data and stable instrument performance; additionally, the QC results are linked to universal settings, transforming QC from a mere maintenance tool into a core guarantee for standardized output.
Building on its leading technology and products, BD Medical has also established a reliable quality management system in China for the flow cytometer BD FACSLyric, conducted performance testing, and carried out a series of other important tasks to ensure the equipment's performance aligns with China's unique testing requirements.On April 30, 2025, the flow cytometer BD FACSLyric officially received the medical device registration certificate issued by the Jiangsu Provincial Medical Products Administration (JSMPA), marking a comprehensive acceleration of the localization production project.
