May 2024,Johnson & Johnson, a globally leading healthcare company, announced a significant strategic agreement with Swiss biotechnology company Numab Therapeutics to acquire the global development and commercialization rights of the innovative drug NM26-2198 for a total price of $1.25 billion.. This transaction not only reflects Johnson & Johnson's active efforts in expanding its R&D pipeline but also demonstrates its strong capabilities in the biopharmaceutical field and high attention to innovative therapies.
According to the terms of the agreement, Johnson & Johnson paid Numab Therapeutics$250 million upfront payment(upfront payment), this fund will be used to support Numab's investment in the early R&D stage and further optimize the technical platform of NM26-2198. In addition, Numab will also be eligible to receive up to$1 billion milestone payment(milestone payments), these payments will be made progressively based on the key advancements of NM26-2198 in research and development, clinical trials, and the commercialization process. The setup of milestone payments aims to incentivize Numab to achieve substantial breakthroughs at various stages of drug development, ensuring the smooth progress of the project.
NM26-2198 is a targetedIL-4Rα and IL-31Novel Bispecific Antibody, with potentially breakthrough therapeutic effects, mainly used for targeting certain difficult-to-cure diseases. This drug is designed to simultaneously block two inflammation pathways associated with atopic dermatitis (AD). By targeting both of these pathways, NM26-2198 can more comprehensively inhibit the pathophysiological process of atopic dermatitis, and is expected to take effect faster than existing single-target drugs.Provide more significant treatment effects.
