Fosun Pharma Strengthens Position in Oncology Immunotherapy with Strategic In-Licensing of TEV-56278

The two parties announced that they will collaborate through their respective subsidiaries to jointly develop the investigational drug anti-PD1-IL2 ATTENUKINE™ therapy TEV-56278. This collaboration marks an important step forward for Fosun Pharmaceutical in the innovative oncology immunotherapy space.
 

Fosun Pharmaceutical has always regarded innovation as the core driving force for development, establishing an open and global pharmaceutical R&D system that integrates independent research and development, cooperative development, licensed introduction, and industrial investment. Focusing on key therapeutic areas such as oncology (solid tumors, hematological tumors), and immune-inflammatory diseases, Fosun Pharmaceutical continues to strengthen its core technology platforms in antibodies/ADCs, cell therapy, and small molecules, while actively expanding into cutting-edge technologies like radiopharmaceuticals, RNA, gene therapy, and AI-driven drug discovery.
 

From its 2024 annual report, we can clearly see Fosun Pharmaceutical's investment and achievements in innovative drug development. In 2024, Fosun Pharmaceutical invested a total of 5.554 billion yuan in R&D, of which 4.91 billion yuan was invested in pharmaceutical R&D, accounting for 16.98% of pharmaceutical business revenue. In that year, by indication, there were over 80 ongoing projects for innovative drugs and biosimilars under development. The implementation of a series of innovative achievements demonstrated Fosun Pharmaceutical’s strong capabilities and firm determination in innovative drug research and development.
 

In the field of tumor immunotherapy, Fosun Pharmaceutical has achieved significant success. Its self-developed anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody, Hansizhuang (Serioli Monoclonal Antibody Injection), is one of its representative achievements. Currently, Hansizhuang has been approved for marketing in over 30 countries, including China, Europe, and Southeast Asia, benefiting more than 100,000 patients. Additionally, in high-incidence cancer fields such as breast cancer and gastric cancer, Fosun Pharmaceutical has also achieved substantial results.
 

TEV-56278, the subject of this collaboration, is a promising innovative immunotherapy for cancer treatment. It is an anti-PD-1 antibody-cytokine fusion protein designed to selectively deliver attenuated interleukin-2 (IL-2), known as ATTENUKINE™, to PD-1-expressing T cells within the tumor microenvironment. This targeted therapy aims to enhance T cell anti-tumor activity while minimizing toxicity. Preclinical data has demonstrated its ability to induce tumor regression, enhance T cell infiltration, and establish durable immune memory. Currently, TEV-56278 is in Phase I clinical trials, with indications under development covering various cancers, including melanoma.
 

According to the cooperation agreement, Fosun Pharmaceutical will obtain the exclusive development, production, and commercialization license for TEV-56278 in China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions) and specific Southeast Asian countries, while Teva retains the rights in other global regions. Both parties will share clinical development data. This collaboration will fully integrate Teva's expertise in innovative drug development and Fosun Pharmaceutical's extensive clinical development experience in the oncology field as well as its commercialization capabilities in the Chinese market, injecting strong momentum into the global development of TEV-56278 and further solidifying Fosun Pharmaceutical’s position in the field of tumor immunotherapy.
 

Looking ahead, as the development of TEV-56278 progresses, Fosun Pharmaceutical is expected to leverage its comprehensive R&D system and market capabilities to bring this innovative therapy to market more quickly, offering new treatment hope to more cancer patients.
